iPhone Firefox Home App

firfox app iPhone Firefox Home AppRecent news from the Mozilla blog page has announced that developers are currently working on an App, based on Mozilla Sync, which will allow its users to view their desktop bookmarked sites, browsing history and even tabs from their most recent browsing session, directly on their iPhone.

Mozilla Sync is already known for being able to synchronise personal information such as bookmarks and browsing history between two desktop browsers using the Sync add-on. The same is now planned to be applied to the latest iPhone app, allowing users to also access their browser data on the go.

Additional features are planned to include use of the Awesome Bar, letting users directly type key words, phrases and the like stright into the URL search bar, which thenf inds possible site matches using an autocomplete function from the browsing history. Although not a directly intended use case, users will also be able to add Firefox Home to their iPad, according to Mozilla.

The app isn’t intended to work as a stand-alone browser, rather will coordinate with the iPhone’s built-in browser for accessing websites, thus avoiding a somewhat touchy subjectof the constraints regarding putting together a competing mobile iPhone browser to apples homebrew OS solution. Other mobile versions of the firefox browser are underway, as mentioned in an earlier post, however plans to support the Windows Mobile platform have fallen by the wayside, due to lack of interest in developing other native products to accompany it.

Eager app users can expect addition of the new app as early as June, but this remains speculation, with no confirmation of whether Apple intends to approve the app at all.
